If you’ve ever flown to Budapest for the delicious goulash or the biggest music festival in Europe, you’ve probably heard of the purple airliner: Wizz Air. The Hungarian company doesn’t give a damn about turtles and is offering a subscription for unlimited flights starting this week. For 499 hard euros you can fly unlimitedly through Europe, probably in a seat with too little legroom. There are a few catches to this subscription. What seems too good to be true often is. Not least because the airliner has been the most delays had. The British consumer association ‘Which?’ awarded this achievement with the title of ‘Worst Airline in England’.
Snake in the wallet
Okay, it’s definitely not expensive and if you accept the average delay of 31 minutes and 36 seconds, it’s a bargain. With the subscription you can fly from 50 different European cities to your favorite location on this planet. At the time of writing, the subscription costs €499. This will increase to €599 as of Friday, August 16, 2024. Wizz Air claims to be the first airline to offer this mega deal in Europe.
There are some catches though. For example, you pay €10 extra for booking on every flight and your flight ‘must’ be booked within the next 72 hours. This means that if you fly to Budapest on Monday for a men’s week and have to be back on Sunday for your sister’s wedding, there may not be a spot. In addition, you pay the usual budget airline fees for extra legroom and extra baggage.
Cheap trips
It may not be the deal of the century, but it is certainly a good one. If you fly a lot every year and take city trips, it is certainly worth doing a little calculation. As with many low-cost airlines, some flights are already a few tens of euros and if you fly these routes, you will often have to sit crammed in. On the other hand, it costs average a plane ticket to Budapest € 147. If you fly return twice a year, you will have already earned back the cost of the subscription.
