Witnesses try to save the lives of two people after car accident on Harlem River Drive; Both Pass Away – NBC4 New York

Two people died overnight in a crash after the driver apparently lost control and crashed in East Harlem, police said.

Authorities say the accident happened shortly after midnight in Harlem River Drivenear the 125th street exit.

According to police reports, the driver of a black Honda Accord lost control in the southbound lanes before hitting the center divider.

Witnesses, including one with medical training, rushed to try to help the two men.

“I took my training as a nurse, I did my job,” said Raquel Colom. “I was there taking care of them until the ambulance and the firemen and the police came in. We couldn’t touch them for the simple fact of how they were, if you touched them, they would have ended up more injured than they were.”

Michael Hamilton, 37, and Norman Batiz, 47, were identified by the Department of Transportation. Both were pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.
