Witnesses in Igor Silva murder case drastically change testimony in court, facing possible criminal charges for false statements

To the Judicial Police, the two witnesses reported attacks and named Marco “Orelhas” as one of the perpetrators, however, in court, they radically changed their version and said that they had not seen attacks, but only the victim running away and then on the ground.

“It’s such a false testimony that I’m not even going to ask to compare it with the previous statements and I’m going to send a certificate to DIAP”, announced the prosecutor, referring to José Magalhães’ testimony. The FC Porto fan said in court that he saw Igor running away and falling, but that he didn’t see anyone chasing him. Confronted by the judge, he admitted that “there was something he said that he shouldn’t have said”, said José Magalhães, referring to the statements he made days after the death to the PJ.

“Somewhere you lied”, reinforced one of the judges, referring to José Magalhães’ testimony. Another witness has now said that she did not witness the attacks and stated that it was her daughter who saw “a guy kicking”.

Like the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Igor Silva’s mother’s lawyer requested the extraction of a certificate, to be delivered to the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action, with a view to possible criminal action for false testimony. One of the judges in the group warned the witnesses that they could be involved in a criminal offense, with a prison sentence or fine, but none changed the testimony given in court.

”The statements are not even close to correct. It’s totally the opposite”, considered Nelson Sousa, lawyer for Igor’s family, as he left the court. “It’s very serious. There is even a witness who admits that he lied in the PJ,” he added.

Previously, another witness, Leandro Martins, changed his testimony to the contrary. To the Judiciary Police, he stated that he did not witness the attacks that resulted in Igor’s death, but in court he stated that he saw Marco “Orelhas” on top of the victim. “He knows my family. I didn’t tell the truth because I was afraid of retaliation. Now I’m not afraid. He went over to the body and said ‘speak now’, or something similar”, he explained.

According to the accusation, validated by the Criminal Instruction Court of Porto, the group of seven men, which included Marco “Orelhas”, a prominent member of the Super Dragões and father of Renato Gonçalves, 20 years old, set up an ambush on Igor with the purpose of take his life. It was Renato who led the “unbridled pursuit” and stabbed the victim 18 times, at three different times, claims the Public Ministry
