The order for the beating of Slavi Angelov was given in the house of a businessman in the Boyana district of Sofia and was assigned to the twins Nikola and Georgi Assenovi, who were later assisted by Biser Mitrev – the third defendant in the case.

Slavi Angelov was beaten in front of his home in Sofia on the evening of March 17, 2020. On April 24, brothers Nikola and Georgi Assenovi, as well as their friend Biser Mitrev, were detained.
Ivaylo Serafimov testified to the police about the investigation a few months later. According to him, before the court he had worked for the man in whose house the meeting took place, but then their relationship deteriorated and he quit his job.
Already during the investigation, Serafimov testified as an anonymous witness and participated in the identification of the three accused at the time. After that, however, he stood by his name and testified as an open witness because he found an obituary on his door. In addition to the case of the beating of the editor-in-chief of “168 Hours”, he testified in several other landmark cases, which are being investigated by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office.

Due to contradictions with his testimony in the pre-trial proceedings, the defense of the Assenov brothers and Biser Mitrev requested that his testimony be read out to the investigating police officer.
In them he says that he has known Biser Mitrev for several years, and before the court he states that he has not seen him in person, but knows about him from the stories of the people who attended the meeting with him. However, after his testimony, he recalled that he knew Mitrev alongside his former driver, who was also from the Nadezhda district.
In front of the police at the end of 2020, Serafimov described the twins, whom he called by name and even showed who was the bigger of the two, watched them strike in training, and then knew their specific movements from recording the beating, which was shown to him by the police. When asked by lawyer Ina Lulcheva who is the bigger of the two brothers, the witness said that he did not distinguish them, and then he was angry that they were dealing with details. He had come to the hearing to reveal who was responsible for the beating and details of many other crimes.
