Officials announced today, Sunday, that a passenger plane with 72 people on board crashed in Kaski district of Pokhara district, central Nepal, located in the Himalayan region of Asia.
Reuters quoted the Nepalese army as saying that 16 passengers were killed, and state television reported that some bodies had been recovered from the crash site, which was heading to Pokhara from the capital, Kathmandu.
For his part, an airport official said that the stricken plane was a twin-engine ATR-72 operated by Yati Airlines.
Yati Airlines spokesman Sudarshan Partola said that 68 passengers and four crew were on board when the plane crashed between the old airport and Pokhara International Airport.

The spokesman told the “Kathmandu Post” that “rescue teams are on their way to the site of the accident, and we do not know at the present time if there are survivors.”
Pictures and videos on social media platforms showed plumes of smoke rising from the site of the accident, and local residents trying to put out the fire and treat the injured.
