Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan joked with FIFA President Gianni Infantino during a meeting at the Turkish House in New York, asking him to play football on the same team with the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
During Infantino’s gift to the Turkish president, the official ball for the 2022 World Cup, on which he wrote “Recep Tayyip Erdogan”, the latter addressed his speech to Infantino saying: “I’m coming to Qatar, who will I play with? myself?”
Infantino replied: “Of course, we will play together on the same team”.
Erdogan then asked: “Will you join the team, Sheikh Tamim?” He replied: “Yes, he will join us.”
Infantino described the gift ball as “a unique and unprecedented ball in the world. Wherever you look, you won’t find such a ball.” Then Erdogan surprised him with an elegant header.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
