Expert in characterizing characters for the theater and cinema, English makeup artist Nicky Hill was out of work during the pandemic and found an unusual way to fight depression.
In the last few weeks, when England entered its third lockdown, Nicky decided to listen to her boyfriend’s advice and do what she likes most for herself: she started to put on makeup and characterize emblematic characters and post them on Instagram.
Result: with their versions of Angelina Jolie, Cher, Boris Johnson, Donald Trump and Halloween figures it has become an internet phenomenon, with thousands of followers and views.
“It was the first time in 7 years that I was out of work and it was making me sick. I started feeling lost, bored, depressed. I used to spend hours in my room looking at the walls,” the makeup artist told the Daily Mail newspaper. “Until my boyfriend said, ‘Don’t sit on your talent, make your face a blank canvas’. It was the best thing I did.”
Nicky took about three hours to make herself look identical to actress Angelina Jolie. “My first Cher, on the other hand, consumed me for almost nine hours,” said the 27-year-old makeup artist, capable of achieving surprising results from the play of shadows and light.
