CANADA – Afraid of syringes and refuses long queues to get Covid-19 vaccine ? The fear was understood by Cobionix, a startup company owned by the University of Waterloo, Canada when it created an autonomous robot called Cobi.
Quoted by New Atlas, Cobio is claimed to be the first robot to successfully perform intramuscular injections. In contrast to a venous injection, an intramuscular injection is performed by introducing the drug through a muscle. The injection does not require a syringe that is known by many people today.
“Cobi is multipurpose robot that can be used quickly to complete tasks by working 100 percent autonomously,” said Tim Lasswell, Cobionix founder and CEO.
“We equipped Cobi to use needle-free injection technology and did not involve the involvement of health workers at all,” he continued.
Nima Zamani, CTO of Cobionix, said there are many benefits of having Cobi. He said the presence of Cobi can also provide protection for health workers who are very vulnerable to being exposed to Covid-19 while working. In addition, Cobi can also reduce health care costs while increasing the number of Covid-19 vaccinations very quickly.
“Cobi’s autonomous nature can also reduce the need for vaccine clinic infrastructure that can help reach populations in remote areas with limited access to medical care,” he explained.
The way Cobi works is quite sophisticated. Before getting the vaccine, the prospective recipient must first register for the vaccine online. Later they will get a predetermined vaccine schedule.
