Amadeus seems convinced: if we do not emerge from the pandemic and we are still in the current conditions, the Sanremo Festival will not take place (or at least not on the dates scheduled to date, from 2 to 6 March 2021). The artistic director of the event was clear and direct at the Dogliani TV and new media festival. The anti-coronavirus rules, with social distancing both among the audience and on the stage, would be too stringent for Ariston.
There is no plan B for Sanremo, it must be in total normality. Either it is done with the public or nothing. Without the public, Sanremo cannot be done, it is unthinkable to leave the audience with the spectators at a distance, it is unthinkable to place the elements of the orchestra every two meters. The Ariston is a wonderful temple, but spaces are limited. And then how do you tell Fiorello not to spit the water on my neck.

After all, Amadeus’ Sanremo 2020, much loved by the public, barely preceded the outbreak of the pandemic and is perceived as a sort of last “happy island” before everyone’s lives changed so radically. Yet, despite the fact that the data on infections are increasing and autumn is a big unknown, the works of Sanremo 2021 are currently continuing regularly: “On December 17th I will reveal all the cast of the Festival on Rai1, not only the young people, but also all the big names“, explained Amadeus, who will listen to the beauty of 500 songs:”Among the singers in the competition and guests there are 50 people who will love you all their life, the other 400 and more will wish you at least to give a strong head somewhere“.

Therefore, to know what the fate of the festival will be, it will be necessary to wait a few more months. At the moment, the only certainty is the confirmation to the management of Amadeus, already at work for months, in addition to Fiorello’s return to his side. The great friendship between the two was the leitmotiv of Sanremo 2020 and the ace in the hole of an edition that in effect was unforgettable, including comic moments, super guests, scandals and “escapes” (read under Morgan and Bugo). The new Sanremo could really be a rebirth for Italians, so in need of lightness and entertainment. Unless it is postponed or even suspended.
