Without fail: this is how your children will be evaluated in this school year

These are the SEP plans for the grading process for the 2020-2021 school year. Spoiler alert: no student will be able to fail the year.

All students will pass the year or at least that is what the SEP plans for the grading process of the 2020-2021 school year.

In a preliminary draft sent to the National Commission for Regulatory Improvement (Conamer) It is read that the Ministry of Public Education will order a minimum score of 6.

According to the document, this rule will apply to preschool, primary and secondary school students.

Especially in cases of students who were in permanent or intermittent contact with their teachers during online classes.

For those students whose communication has been non-existent, the teachers will record the legend “No information” on the ballot.

But that does not imply that the student fails the subject, since the grade for the 2020-2021 school year will be reported after an extraordinary recovery period.

“In none of the cases may students be retained in the school grade in which they are enrolled, considering that they are subject to an extraordinary assessment process,” the document indicates.

How they will obtain the grade for the 2020-2021 school year

The preliminary draft of the SEP details how primary and secondary school students will be graded.

Students in grades one through six will be assigned an overall grade for the grade and will be recorded as a final grade point average.

“In this case, the minimum grade to be indicated on the report card will be 6”, orders the SEP in the document.

For secondary school students, a different process will be followed, but with a minimum score of 6.

Those who are between first and third of secondary school will be graded by subject.

Said grades will be added and the total will be divided by the number of subjects to obtain the average.

“In secondary education, a global subject grade will be assigned, the sum of the grades will give the final grade point average. In this case, the minimum grade to be indicated on the report card will be 6 ”, indicates the SEP.

Those cases in which there are no conditions to carry out the general assessment of the students should act as follows.

Teachers will record the legend “Insufficient information” on the evaluation form.

In these cases, the score will be reported until after the recovery period, thereby establishing a grade for the 2020-2021 school year.

Will there be special cases?

According to the preliminary draft of the SEP, there may be cases in which teachers ask students to demonstrate the activities carried out in order to establish the grade for the 2020-2021 school year.

If your child is in these situations, “mothers, fathers or guardians, may support the demonstration of the activities carried out by their daughters, sons or wards during the period of confinement.”

These activities will be evaluated by the teacher of the corresponding group or subject.

In response, the teacher may make recommendations to mothers and fathers or guardians in cases where they consider it necessary.

However, “in none of the cases may students be retained in the school grade in which they are enrolled, considering that they are subject to an extraordinary assessment process.”

Another of the measures indicated in the document is the realization of an extraordinary recovery period, which will cover the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year until the end of the first evaluation period.

It should be noted that since it is a preliminary draft, these measures will enter into force until they are published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).
