Without concrete responses to CNTE demands, says Section 14 leader

Mexico City. There are still no concrete answers to the main demands of the democratic teaching profession, considered Héctor Torres Solano, general secretary of section 14 of the State Coordinator of Education Workers of Guerrero.

After four meetings between leaders of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, he highlighted that although “they do see political will on the part of the president, the same does not happen with his officials, who give him other data”. For this reason, “we are a little disenchanted, we expected more from this negotiating table,” he said as he left the meeting.

Later in an interview with La Jornada, after the negotiation table with López Obrador at the National Palace, which lasted approximately three hours, Torres Solano reported that they were summoned to continue the dialogue on May 9 at 5 p.m. there. place, and that the expectation is that on that occasion there will be a “response to the proposals” of the CNTE.

At the May meeting, among other matters, “we will be informed of how much the salary increase could be. We ask for a 100 percent salary increase, and that it be allocated to base salary and not to benefits. We barely earn 13,500 as net salary per month.”

During the Sixth Extraordinary National Political Congress of the CNTE, which takes place from today until Sunday in Mexico City, what has been discussed at the negotiation tables with the president will be presented.

“In these three days we will analyze whether the dialogue is not favoring the movement and see what actions follow; The action plan will be designed for the following months. He pointed out that it will be Congress that will decide whether or not to go on strike in the context of Teacher’s Day (May 15).

In the meetings “we have addressed the issue of Educational Reform, Reform of the ISSSTE Law, the emerging salary increase, payments for UMAS and social justice, which has to do with social organizations; with the massacre in Nochtitlán, the meeting with the parents of the 43 normalistas of Ayotzinapa and the punishment for the murder of Yanqui Khotan Gómez Peralta.”

Likewise, he highlighted that the installation of “tripartite negotiation tables” was required, that is, between the CNTE and the federal and state governments where the CNTE has a presence.
38 representatives from 24 states attended the meeting.
