Without an audience and in the rain, the gloomy Thanksgiving parade in New York

Disrupted by the covid-19 pandemic, the traditional Macy’s Thanksgiving parade in New York City took place without an audience and in the rain.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving parade marched on Thursday in the gray New York City. Covid-19 requires, this year the public was not authorized to take up residence in the street to watch the giant balloons descend the main avenues of the city. And to add to this already gloomy atmosphere, the rain invited itself to the party.

The pandemic, of which New York was the epicenter last spring in the United States, has forced organizers to shake up traditions. While tanks usually roam Manhattan, this year the event was held outside the famous department store, reports ABC News. If the balloons were present, some were this time retained by vehicles which kept them moving. Normally, it is party participants who hold the ropes of these huge inflatable structures. In addition, the parade was broadcast on television and online and much of the animation was filmed in advance. Heavily reduced, this celebration is the first in New York since the start of the pandemic, and one of the few events to be held this year.

The Thanksgiving meal was of great concern in the United States, which has nearly 264,000 dead. Joe Biden, the elected president, asked the Americans to limit the gatherings during this festival, while Donald Trump, still in office, had encouraged Wednesday “all Americans to gather, at home and in places of worship”.
