After two first opuses of good quality, the franchise Without a sound expands with a spin-off, and audiences were treated to a brief teaser at CinemaCon.
The film Without a Noise, directed by actor John Krasinski, was a pleasant surprise when it was released in 2018. This post-apocalyptic film, peppered with horrific elements, played with the tension caused by the slightest sound. The great success of the film allowed him to have a sequel three years later, which did not fail at the box office despite a release in the midst of a pandemic. While a third opus – again directed by John Krasinski – should see the light of day in 2025, the franchise will also have the right to a prequel.
Without a Sound: Day One will be written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, and as its title suggests, will return to THE origins of the alien invasion that decimated the United States and the rest of the world. We will find a rising star in the cast of this apocalyptic spin-off, actor Alex Wolff, who will accompany the protagonist played by Lupita Nyong’o. Only then, these characters will have to survive in the middle of New York, one of the noisiest places in the world…
During the Paramount panel at CinemaCon Las Vegas 2023, the film crew released a brief teaserwhich is described by DiscussingFilm :
« We follow Lupita Nyong’o as she takes the bus, in the middle of New York. The vehicle is stuck in a traffic jam as people get out of their vehicles. Dull noises are heard, then the back of the bus is suddenly caught in an explosion. A tagline appears on the screen: “Live the day when the world has not made a sound”.
Lupita slowly gets out of the carcass of the bus, and raises her eyes to the sky: we see dozens of asteroids falling straight to Earth. After this first sequence, a montage of brief images reveals the other characters: Djimon Hounsou returns after his role in A Quiet Place 2, Alex Wolff runs in panic, and Joseph Quinn cries out in pain ».
We are therefore very optimistic about this new film. Michael Sarnoski was already behind the excellent Pig with Nicholas Cage, and brought together a cast of very good quality. In addition, its New York setting should give rise to well-felt horrific sequences. We are also curious to find Djimon Hounsou, and to learn more about his character, who in Without a Sound 2 had become the leader of a colony of survivors.
In this same film, we had already had a glimpse of this fateful day during the opening scene, which however took place in a small quiet town in the state of New York, far from its metropolis and its noise. A much more terrible fate therefore surely awaits the heroes of Without a Sound: Day One who will come out in theaters March 6, 2024.
