On Saturday, the tennis men of TV Jahn Wolfsburg will start the season in the league, in which there will be no promoted and relegated players. The Wolfsburg team will play the first game day at 2 p.m. at the Oldenburg TeV II, just 250 kilometers away. Which six players will open the season will only be decided on Friday evening after training. Marek Pesicka, Oliver Wagner, Erik Patorra, Julius Henneke, Philip Müller, Lion Gerono and Fabian Höflich are ready, one of them will have to stay at home. It is clear that in addition to the singles, doubles are also played, since they are again permitted in Lower Saxony and Bremen, announced the tennis association Lower Saxony-Bremen.
Newcomers with little chance, talents have priority
The six players at the start of the season are “but definitely not the squad for the entire season, we will also use other players,” said head coach Milan Pesicka. The new additions Arnav Alok Goel (India), Victor Schebolta and Miroslav Medricky (Czech Republic) will probably not be used this season. Since the TV Jahn can not relegate from the Oberliga during the season, the club wants to give its own talents more playing time.

The captain Niklas Schulz will not be able to attend the premiere due to the exam phase at the university. “I know that the boys are hot and want to play,” says Schulz. The team had missed promotion to second place in the national league last season, while the division of the season Schulz and Co. received confirmation that they were allowed to start in the top division. “We thought: ‘Why should we cancel this?’ If you can only play a little anyway, then you have at least good matches and there is still a chance of ranking points”, says Schulz.

The team will take the route from Wolfsburg to Oldenburg and back again with a minibus – if allowed – or three cars to comply with the distance and hygiene regulations. Coach Pesicka does not take the tour himself, but is not worried about his team. “I have a lot of respect for my boys. On the one hand, I would also like to go to Oldenburg to support them. But I know that they are so well trained that they can help themselves. In this situation it doesn’t have to be, ”says Pesicka.
