“There are rumors circulating in my hospital. The hospital was in debt before the arrival of the Covid and it will not be able to face the enormous cost of the pandemic in the months to come. For example, he had to pay out of his own pocket for the work that allowed the installation of airlocks to enter and exit the Covid units, our very many overtime, the fabrics to make the masks and gowns that were missing during the first epidemic peak… Rumors therefore say that there could be layoffs at the end of the health crisis. These concerns are not only circulating in my hospital: colleagues from Liège and Brussels have heard the same thing. These layoffs would affect everyone: caregivers, radiologists, administrators, technical service, maintenance staff… ”, explains a nurse from Dour who preferred to remain anonymous.
> Caregivers from nursing homes are telling us about equally worrying rumors: “We would be too many for too few seniors. »
> The Dr Philippe Devos confirms these fears: he explains.
> If hospitals stop investing, it is the patient who will drink: “The reduction in investment will also have an impact on the patient. »
