Algerian judoka Fethi Nourine, who competed in 73 kilos at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, withdrew from the games to support Palestine in order not to face Israeli Tohar Butbul, who will be his opponent in the possible matchup of the last 32 rounds.
Nourine, who is expected to face Saudi Arabian Mohammed Abdalrasool on Monday, July 26 in the last 64 laps, has decided not to face his Israeli opponent of the same weight in the possible last 32 laps.
Making a statement after the draw, Nourine said, “Palestine’s struggle is bigger than my struggle.”
