CONAKRY– This is an astonishing explanation on the part of the Minister of Youth and Sports Lansana Béa Diallo, to justify the official withdrawal of Syli National from the U-20s in the men’s football tournament of the Francophonie games in Kinshasa, Congo. According to the first official of the sports department, the financial means do not allow Guinea to engage this team in this continental tournament. A flawed reasoning that will inevitably make people disappointed and frustrated.
« We don’t have to go with everyone to the Jeux de la Francophonie. We participate in these games to be able to achieve results in a dynamic where we are prepared with the means made available. Today, no decision has been taken to say that Guinea is not taking part in the Games of La Francophonie. So, at the level of the Olympic committee, a request was made specifically to go to the Francophonie games and there are teams that have been proposed. Today, the objective of representing a country in a competition is not to go to make up the numbers. It’s to represent the country with dignity with concrete results. Today, what I’m looking for is performance. It’s not wasting the money of the Republic, but it’s to go effectively to competitions where we will achieve results and also according to the means that we put at our disposal. Well, these are the things we are working on.. But we have never said that Guinea will not participate in the games of the Francophonie.
