With victory in Nevada, Democrats retain control of US Senate / Article

The latest estimates published by several US television channels show that Democratic Senator Katrina Cortes-Masto has won another two-year term in the state of Nevada.

That gives Democrats the 50 seats they need in the Senate to secure control of the upper house of Congress, as a tie vote could give US Vice President Kamal Harris, a Democrat, the casting vote.

Currently compiled estimates of election results show that Democrats have 50 out of 100 Senate seats and Republicans – 49. The second round of elections is expected in the state of Georgia on December 6.

Biden, currently in Cambodia for the Association of South Asian Nations summit, expressed his delight that Democrats will continue to have a majority in the Senate for years to come.

Republicans have so far secured 211 of the 435 seats in the House and appear to be on track to secure a slim majority in the lower house of Congress.
