With gas prices going up tenfold in two years, “there is great stress on consumers and industries that cannot survive on these prices.”
This is the alarm raised by the governor of the Bank of Italy, Ignazio Visco, who stresses that responding to this difficulty “is not the responsibility of monetary policies”. On the other hand, the “strong coordination of response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine was important. This is the only way to respond to this terrible shock”.
