At present, the speed of AI calculations doubles every 3-4 months, but many people wish that the development went even faster than that.
A group of researchers with a background from Oxford University in the UK and Münster University in Germany formed a new company last year called Salience Labs, which managed to attract a whole bunch of investors.
The hope is to increase the speed significantly by combining high-performance processors with a new kind of chip that uses photons.
In theory, the calculations could be done at the speed of light, but of course there is still a lot to file before that happens.
– This technology means that we can make significantly more calculations without consuming more resources, says Salience Labs CEO Vaysh Kewada in a comment to Techcrunch.
