On November 21, Sotheby’s will orchestrate the 161st Hospices de Beaune wine sale. Until then, the most famous auctions in the wine world were operated by Christie’s. But sales experienced some turmoil last year, being postponed, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which generated tensions between Beaune and the house of François Pinault.
Suddenly, it is the competitor, owned by Patrick Drahi, who seized it for the next five years. A great catch because this auction has brought in up to 13.5 million in the past and brought together up to 500 lots (including a charity lot for the benefit of the Hospices).
