Arrows, bows and targets are part of the new equipment that the O’Higgins Archery Academyfor the benefit of children, young people and adults of the Doñihue commune. The above, thanks to the award of the “Neighbor Fund” from Agrosuper, an initiative that seeks to contribute to the improvement of the operating conditions of various social organizations through the contribution of resources for the execution of community projects.
The contribution made by the company – along with other external contributions – allowed this organization to acquire part of the equipment necessary to train and compete and, thus, comply with this and other standards required to be able to officially federate before the Ministry of Sports.
The celebration of this milestone took place at the Lo Miranda Municipal Stadium through a ceremony in which the regional governor of O’Higgins, Pablo Silva Amaya, participated; the Seremi de Deportes de O’Higgins, Macarena Chandía; the mayor of Doñihue, Pabla Ponce; the president of the Chilean Archery Federation (FECHTA), César Otárola; the Olympic silver medalist in Tokyo 2020, Mariana Zúñiga; representatives of the academy; Agrosuper executives; and neighbors of the community.
During the event, the workshops carried out between December and February by the academy were also closed. The first of these focused on improving mood in adults, through the release of stress. The second workshop was focused on children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who demonstrated great physical progress as the training progressed. Finally, the third and last group was made up of young people, whose objective was competitive practice. In this way, between the three groups, a total of 50 beneficiary neighbors were reached.
“There are children who, surely, would not be able to participate in this type of sports if there were no contributions from the private world, in favor of inclusion, such as those made by Agrosuper,” said the governor of the O’Higgins Region, Pablo Silva Amaya. Along the same lines, the Seremi de Deportes de O’Higgins, Macarena Chandía, also highlighted the contribution of the company. “The fact that private companies have resources to benefit the community allows social organizations like this one to fulfill their mission and vision and, in this way, achieve the objectives they set over time”stated the authority.
Likewise, the mayor of the Doñihue commune, Pabla Ponce Valle, indicated that ““It is always necessary to have a helping hand supporting us as Agrosuper constantly does, both in the delivery of resources and in management, to be able to carry out this type of initiatives.”. Meanwhile, the president of the Chilean Archery Federation, César Otárola, highlighted that ““There is no better understanding for sport than the link that is generated between the public-private world in favor of disciplines like ours.”
In relation to the resources obtained, the president of the O’Higgins Archery Academy, Carolina Chirino, highlighted the importance of being awarded Agrosuper’s “Neighbor Fund” to work collaboratively with a greater number of children, young people and adults from community. “With the resources obtained from this competitive fund we were able to buy bows, arrows and targets, which allowed us to add 40 children to our training and competitive classes. Along these lines, the injection of this economic capital was key to being able to federate as an academy and, as a consequence, officially form part of this discipline at the regional and national level.”,said the neighborhood leader.
For her part, the Chilean silver medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Mariana Zúñiga, had words for the residents of the community who are gradually joining this initiative. “The message I want to convey to all the new beneficiaries is that, I hope they can find in archery shooting a life experience that allows them to learn more about themselves,” said the national representative in the last Pan American and Parapan American Games in Santiago 2023.
Finally, the coordinator of Agrosuper’s “Neighbor Fund” program, Camila Mallea, expressed her gratitude for the trust placed by social organizations in the linkage programs developed by the company. “As Agrosuper we are very proud to be able to reaffirm our commitment to promoting the strengthening of social organizations, today, specifically, through sports, one of our lines of contribution to the community,” concluded the executive.
