With the meeting of the newly elected Saeima it can be assumed that the Council of Ministers has resigned

The government of Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņas (JV), constituted in the 13th Saeima, established its powers in accordance with the regulation on 1 November, Saeima President Edvards Smiltēns (AP) announced Tuesday during the 14th session of the Saeima.

As the LETA agency was previously informed by the Saeima Press Service, under the Law on the establishment of the Cabinet of Ministers, with the meeting of the newly elected Saeima, the Cabinet of Ministers is believed to have resigned.

The current Kariņa government will continue to perform its functions until the Saeima has expressed confidence in a new Cabinet of Ministers.

As reported, it has now emerged that there is a possibility that Kariņš could lead the next government as well. The next candidate for the office of Prime Minister has yet to be nominated by President Egils Levitas and the Saeima has yet to vote for the approval of the new government.

Currently, it appears that the next government could be formed by “New Unity”, “United List” and the National Union. For now, however, the negotiations for the formation of the coalition are still ongoing.
