/ world today news/ The “deterrent facility” in question is not just a means of theft from speculatively inflated prices of materials. It’s not just a piggy bank for the channelers. Nor a simple barrier against refugees. It has a much greater symbolic meaning. The fence is the “Mecca”, in which Borisov demonstratively leads foreign statesmen and emissaries to bow before his geopolitical talent and recognize his merits as a faithful guard of the external European borders. Borisov’s diplomatic reputation rests on the barbed wire of this fence. And his political longevity inside the country depends on him.
The cabinet’s decision to declare a barbed-wire fence an object of national security suggests panic. It is politically insane because it recognizes that there is a problem with the fence. And it lends credence to rumors of channeling schemes under the umbrella of power. But instead of solving this problem, the government prefers to close the mouths and eyes of its critics. So he wants to keep the schemes.
Separately, the decision linked a purely image risk. It brings back the memory of branches and gunned down fugitives across the border – so politically dear to the anti-communist right. Had it been taken by someone else, it would have sparked a wave of protester outrage and ominous slogans like “Back to Communism!”. But taken by the “Borisov” cabinet, this decision did not meet resistance. Why?
This is certainly another proof that the declassification of the “obstructing facility” is directed against the opposition, and more directly against the BSP. And more than Borisov, the protester hates only “communists”.
With what did the “communists” incur Borisov’s holy wrath? Well, what’s up. First there was Sujukgate, then there was Kumgate, followed by revelations of widespread snobbery. BSP also won a point in the scandal with Anton Todorov. And now it has aimed right at his groin – the infamous fence along the Turkish border. The facility in question is not simply a vehicle for theft from speculatively inflated prices of materials. The fence is a kind of redemption for the methane before Erdogan. At the same time – a great tool for blackmail and extortion: “we protect you, give us money”. Our Schengen and our stay in the waiting room of the euro almost depend on this wire. That’s why he “takes” foreigners to see it more closely, gives them jeep tours and aerial tours – because there’s a lot of fun in this job.
Borisov shows the fence to former British Prime Minister David Cameron.
But here various grumblers appear who dispute his achievement and spoil his self-esteem as a “Balkan Kissinger”. It is not by chance that the strange normative act of the Council of Ministers, which declares the fence an inviolable object of national security, was adopted just before a dangerous revelation – a journalistic investigation by Elena Yoncheva about the complete sham of the fence. By its act, the government is in effect rushing to defuse the bomb before it explodes. Do you know how far this Elena has come? And there is certainly something to be afraid of – both GERB and the “patriots”. Because the alush-verish around the furrow is big. It is enough to recall the hundreds of thousands that Airbap Deputy Prime Minister Valeri Simeonov earns from his hotel in Malko Tarnovo, where the seconded border guards are accommodated. What about human trafficking schemes that make millions? Recently, the coordinator of the NFSB in Kostinbrod, Anelia Veleva, was found guilty of embezzlement and pleaded guilty.
Uncovering the facts can reveal a closely guarded secret – that the highest level of power organizes and coordinates the trafficking of refugees through the country’s territory, from which it derives a triple profit. Once – in money. The second time – it “cleanses” the migrants from the Bulgarian territory by “exporting” them to neighboring countries. And thirdly, he brags to foreigners that he has “zero” migration and is successfully “dealing” with the refugee flow.
Boyko Borisov and Valeri Simeonov fly over the fence along the border with Turkey with a helicopter.
Perhaps this explains the mysterious fact that out of over 40,000 illegal migrants who entered Bulgaria last year alone, only 1,800 have remained in the accommodation centers to date (if the statistics provided by the border services are to be believed).
Making light of the fact that our facility on the Turkish border is anything but “obstructive” risks giving Borisov headaches. His whole PR built around that fence could suddenly collapse. And if PR collapses, so does power, because they have long been one and the same.
All of which explains why the cabinet was quick to incriminate any revelations about the fence before it was too late. From now on, anyone who divulges details of the facility, including nothing, can be prosecuted for divulging a state secret. And when the BSP says “we stand behind Elena, come arrest us”, it’s not just an exercise in style. The threat is very real.
But there is a significant problem. For Borisov. A few days ago, sociologists announced data according to which people prefer to believe Elena Yoncheva, not GERB. And it is not at all certain how the repression against the journalist and MP from the BSP will affect the rulers. Unlike Borisov, Yoncheva is an impeccable professional. So he is the vulnerable one. During the campaign, it was leaked that the state paid millions for Elena’s reports abroad, so now he has to go to court. Moreover, in his desire for revenge, he revealed state secrets, which is also subjudicial, but that is another topic.
In front of bTV, Elena Yoncheva showed photos showing how the refugees easily jump over the “deterrent facility” along the border with Turkey with a ladder.
Either way, Borisov’s fight with the fragile and unyielding journalist has a long background. She unraveled the affair with uranium in the water of Haskovo and found that the authorities had been hiding the case for nearly a year. Elena Yoncheva also shed light on the scheme by which GERB deputy Delyan Dobrev employed his relatives in the Haskovo municipality. Now Elena Yoncheva is again digging around the fence along the border with Turkey.
The outcome of this clash is yet to come. But it does not seem to be in favor of Borisov…
