With the exception of the eastern regions, another 7 days without moisture in the soil and from the sky – Agro Plovdiv – 2024-10-25 07:24:00

Forecast for the period 25-31 October

Dukena Zholeva, agrometeorologist at NIMH

During the next seven-day period, the agro-meteorological conditions will be determined by relatively dry weather and temperatures close to the usual for the end of October.

During the period, the drought in the greater part of the country will deepen and will hinder the sowing of winter cereals and the normal progress of the initial phases of the vegetation of the sown autumn crops.

In places in the northwestern and southern regions, there is no productive moisture in the 50 cm soil layer, and in 100 cm – the level of moisture reserves is very low – below 50% of the PPV (farm stations: Knezha, Bazovets, Kyustendil, Sandanski, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Chirpan).

The soil moisture reserves in the 50 and 100 cm layer are relatively good, over 75% of the PPV, in places in Eastern Bulgaria (Silistra, Dobrich, Dolni Chiflik, Yambol), where in the first half of autumn, precipitation of economic importance was recorded.

Until the end of October, in the majority of Polish regions, the limiting factor for the development of autumn crops remains the lack of soil moisture. During the period, the germination and initial leaf formation phases will be observed for winter cereal crops sown in the first half of October. In the extreme southern regions (Lyubimets agricultural station), the drought will call into question the survival of some of the germinated crops.

At the end of October, the conditions will be suitable for harvesting the autumn-winter varieties of fruit trees. The third ten days of October is a recommended period for planting currants and raspberries.
