/ world today news/ The Ukrainian Armed Forces, with the help of floating drones near the Bosphorus, attacked the Russian ship “Ivan Hurs”, which ensured the safety of the gas pipelines going to Turkey. According to the Ministry of Defense, all drones have been destroyed. It seems that the enemy considered “Ivan Hurs” an easy target and received the coordinates for the attack from the NATO countries. How did the Russian military manage to neutralize the new threat and why should such attacks be expected in the future?
On Wednesday, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that on the morning of May 24, the Ukrainian Navy unsuccessfully attacked the reconnaissance ship “Ivan Hurs” of the Black Sea Fleet with three unmanned boats. All unmanned boats, as reported by the department, were destroyed 140 km northeast of the Bosphorus.
The statement also states that Ivan Hurs performed tasks to ensure the safety of the operation of the Turkish Stream and Blue Stream gas pipelines in the exclusive economic zone of the Republic of Turkey. The agency also released a video showing one of the boats being hit.
It also follows from the department’s reports that “after the terrorist attack on September 26, 2022 against Nord Stream-1 and Nord Stream 02, the armed forces of the Russian Federation are taking measures to protect such facilities.” “And not for nothing,” the statement said.
We have already commented that gas pipelines from Russia to Turkey may repeat the fate of Nord Stream. Fears of this arose in Turkey’s expert community after American investigative journalist Seymour Hirsch revealed the explosions at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. The main suspect in the sabotage was the US.
In addition, it was reported in November that Volodymyr Zelensky wants to create a Ukrainian fleet of maritime drones. His ambitions are fully capable of being supported by the US and especially Great Britain, whose drones have already been used for terrorist attacks in the waters of Sevastopol. And what’s more, the devices that attacked Sevastopol resemble those that tried to attack the ship “Ivan Hurs”.
The medium reconnaissance ship “Ivan Hurs” was launched in the spring of 2017, it is the second ship of project 18280. It is named after Vice Admiral Ivan Hurs. Its main task is to provide communication and control of the fleet, conduct electronic intelligence and radio-electronic warfare.
The radio equipment includes navigation radar MP-231-3, a bridge system for electronic positioning, localization, detection and orientation “Mostik-18280”, a basic system for ensuring electronic compatibility of radar detection and navigation stations, anti-aircraft artillery and missile control systems systems and systems for mutual exchange of information “Subheading-23”.
Also on board are two to four ship-borne heavy machine guns and several Igla anti-aircraft missile systems. At the same time, according to experts, Ukraine could not have carried out such a brazen attack on the ship on its own.
“The destroyed devices don’t even have radar on board. They cannot independently detect the target. Someone brought them. Someone whose reconnaissance planes and drones constantly hover over the Black Sea. “Simply because Ukraine does not have such opportunities for targeting”, write the authors of a channel in “Telegram”.
“In general, the Ivan Hurs is a modern ship. It has everything on board to repel such “pirate” attacks. Even if the ship is attacked from the air, then there is something to answer with. In fact, it is a combat unit that performs specific tasks,” says Vasily Dendikin, military expert, captain 1st rank.
According to the expert, if the Ukrainian military considered “Ivan Hurs” an easy target, then they were “wrong”. According to one of the versions, Ukrainian boats can move along the “grain corridor” route. This once again raises questions that under the pretext of exporting grain, Ukraine seeks to solve military problems. At the same time, he is convinced that the information about the ship’s location was received from the NATO countries.
“The information is transmitted by large American reconnaissance drones, one of which we spotted not far from Crimea. There is also data from satellite intelligence. In addition, there are NATO countries nearby – Bulgaria and Romania, where they also keep the “ears” and “eyes” of the Americans. Therefore, they know what and where to launch. I believe that the drones that attacked the ship “Ivan Hurs” were supplied to the VSU by the NATO countries. Even if they are assembled in Ukraine, all the parts are still imported there,” Dendikin is convinced.
The former commander of the Baltic Fleet, Admiral Vladimir Valuev, agrees that the space intelligence of NATO countries may have been involved in transmitting the coordinates of the Russian ship. “The alliance has many sources of information. It is possible that the enemy has carried out a tactical reconnaissance in this area, found the coordinates of “Ivan Hurs” and reported them”, suggested Valuev.
According to the admiral, the target of the VSU could also be the gas pipelines through which Russia continues to supply gas to Turkey and European countries. Dandikin also agrees that after the submarine attacks on the Nord Stream, it is primarily the Turk Stream that is at risk. At the same time, experts were not surprised that NATO countries contribute to attacks on gas pipelines in which other members of the Alliance are interested.
“I think that after Sunday’s election, which I hope Erdogan will win, the Turkish Stream security issue will be publicly understood. Zelensky’s cabinet does not hide its desire to ensure that the export of Russian gas to Europe will pass only through Ukraine. And other gas pipelines are their competitors. Therefore, I do not rule out a repetition of such attacks in the future,” Dendikin admitted.
