With stale bread they destroy the windows of the Etecsa headquarters in Granma

An unusual incident shook the routine of Granma, Cuba, last Friday afternoon, when a man on a motorcycle threw a bread at the provincial headquarters of ETECSA, causing several windows to break.

The “act of vandalism” was reported by Cuban influencer Ernesto Morales, who shared the news on his Facebook profile accompanied by several photographs showing the damage.

According to the images released by Morales, the bread, thrown with force as the motorcyclist passed by, hit the glass facade of the telecommunications building. The exact details of the event and the individual’s possible motivations are still uncertain, but the singularity of the event has generated a wave of reactions on social networks.

Headquarters employees and bystanders who witnessed the incident were perplexed by the unusual protest. No one was injured, but the surprise and confusion were evident. Local authorities have not yet issued an official statement about the incident, and the identity of the motorcyclist has not yet been revealed.

Morales, known for his activism and social criticism on digital platforms, was quick to express his opinion on the event, suggesting that this could be a symbolic act of discontent.

“Workers from the company, located in the Jesús Menéndez neighborhood of Bayamo, commented that this attack with bread sets a dangerous precedent. “If someone thought to detonate a bag of Hola Coffee, or if the bread had contained Prodal croquettes, we would be talking about greater evils,” said the journalist, who coincidentally is from Bayamo, capital of the Granma province, ironically.

The headquarters of ETECSA, a state monopoly that provides telecommunications services on the Island, suffered considerable material damage. Company personnel and the relevant authorities cordoned off the affected area to proceed with the cleaning and repair of the damaged glass.

This event joins a series of unusual demonstrations that have taken place in Cuba in recent times, reflecting a possible increase in social tension in some localities. While awaiting more information from the authorities, the Cuban community abroad remains attentive to the development of events.
