A second art exhibition was opened within the framework of the First Slavic Arts Forum in Moscow. Unlike the Bulgarian artist Milena Velcheva, who presented herself yesterday in the “Christ the Savior” temple, 41 painters exhibited their paintings in the “Grechkov” studio of military artists.
The front graphic of Mark Nikolayevich Domashchenko (1906 – 1988) was also shown. He worked in the Studio of Military Artists from 1944 to 1988. He took part in the Radhan and Great Patriotic War, and was awarded orders and medals. In February 1950, he was sentenced to eight years in a labor camp for the article “Anti-Soviet Agitation and Propaganda”. In 1956, his case was re-examined and, due to the lack of criminal evidence, it was closed. Sammy Domashchenko has been rehabilitated. In the years of his persecution, almost all of his artistic heritage was destroyed. Miraculously, some graphic and pictorial works were saved, which are shown at the exhibition.
The studio of military artists “M. Grekov” has existed since 1934. For 75 years, it participated in the creation of large-scale state projects. Its artists have created more than 70 panoramas and dioramas, starting with the first Soviet panorama “Battle of Stalingrad” and reaching the cycle of six dioramas in the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War. The military artists from the “Grekov” studio are the authors of a number of masterpieces of the monumental-historical genre abroad, among them the Pleven panorama.
The awarding of the winners of the “I remember, I’m proud!” youth competition, dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, took place in the studio. People’s Artist of the USSR, actor Nikolai Burlyaev, People’s Artist of the USSR Alexander Shilov, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Dmitry Belyukin, Milena Velcheva and Ivo Atanasov spoke to the participants of the celebration.
The celebration continued in the courtyard of the studio, where everyone received a soldier’s porridge of buckwheat, prepared in a field kitchen, as well as the front ration of vodka.
