With the arrival of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to the presidency of Mexico, all women will be represented, which will open opportunities for them, said Sonia Garza González, national president of the Mexican Association of Women Business Leaders (AMMJE).
During the presentation of the Business Summit of this organization, which will take place from October 14 to 17 in Irapuato, Guanajuato, the leader highlighted that the country is experiencing a historic moment with the arrival of the first female president.
“It not only celebrates the growing role of women in politics and society, but also encourages reflection on their influence in all sectors,” she said.
“Now we will feel represented in this country, where we are the majority of the population and the fact that a woman becomes president is something that fills us all with pride,” she said.
“It means that there will be more space for us, because she has also been through all the situations that we have been through in life and that has led us to be what we are and to be where we are. It is precisely those difficulties that we have encountered that have shaped our character,” he added.
She commented that she is already in communication with the new officials of Sheinbaum Pardo’s government, but out of respect for the outgoing ones they have not yet met to discuss pending issues related to women who run businesses.
Concepción Borjón Shears, executive director of Banca Seguros at Banca Afirme, highlighted that women entrepreneurs in the country have significantly contributed to the country’s economic growth, as in the last five years the number of businesses led by them has increased by 30 percent.
“This demonstrates the entrepreneurial spirit and determination of Mexican women. Currently, more than 36 percent of small and medium-sized businesses are led by women,” she said.
She mentioned that although the granting of credits to women and men is progressing at a good pace, there is still a significant gap.
“The growth in access to credit for women has not been as rapid as that for men. Both have certainly been growing,” she said.
She commented that this is due to several factors such as the issue of knowledge, which is why Afirme is working on counseling with the female population.
She noted that according to statistics, women who run companies have better credit quality, as they respond better.
He pointed out that the gap between loans granted to men and to the female population in the last five years is around 15 percentage points.
Garza González pointed out that women are more cautious with money management in companies, which is why they are more likely to ask for financial loans, and even resort to loans from family or friends.
