With Nübel, Volland & Jakobs
The German professionals Alexander Nübel, Kevin Volland and Ismail Jakobs missed out on the French Cup final with AS Monaco. The team lost 4-2 away to FC Nantes on penalties on Wednesday night. After 90 minutes it was 2:2. Guillermo Maripán gave the visitors the lead (12′) before Djibril Sidibé (21′) equalized with an own goal. In the second half, Samuel Moutoussamy turned the game (74′) in favor of the home side, to which Myron Boadu had an answer a little later (76′).
After regular time it went to penalties without extra time, in which Wissam Ben Yedder, who was the first to take the penalty, and shortly afterwards Aurélien Tchouaméni missed their attempts for the Monegasque. Volland, who came on as a substitute in the 73rd minute, converted his penalty. Because FC Nantes shot clean and all four penalties were successful, including one by Randal Kolo Muani, who was being courted by Eintracht Frankfurt, the “canaries” made it into the cup final for the first time since the 1999/00 season, when the club celebrated winning the title.

The fans of the west of France cheered the semi-final victory over AS Monaco and gathered on the grass, which was almost completely covered, after the end of the game. In the final on 8 May, FC Nantes will now face OGC Nice, who beat fourth-tier FC Versailles 2-0 the day before. The “eagles” around captain Dante ensured the elimination of Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16.
