With music they said their last goodbye to ‘Migue’ López

After remaining at Cámara Ardiente on the Jorge Oñate stage, Olaya Herrera Square, in La Paz, at 3:00 in the afternoon yesterday the tribute to the fifth King of the Vallenato Festival, Miguel López, who died on September 12, began in a clinic in Valledupar.

Artists and accordion players said goodbye to him to the sound of the snare drum, guacharaca and accordion, in addition to municipal and departmental authorities who exalted his legacy by presenting recognitions to the family.

The tribute began with words from the mayor of La Paz, Martín Zuleta, who reiterated that his town is overcome by the sadness of a great artist and defender of Vallenato folklore.

Likewise, he announced that the Simón Bolívar park will soon be inaugurated, in which tribute will be paid to the López Dynasty to Jorge Oñate, Pachito Mejía and the teacher Alfredo Gutiérrez.

Iván Murgas, Cultural Advisor of the Government of Cesar, said that Miguel López leaves a legacy, a history and his family is the one that has the most artists in all fields.

For this reason, in the Cultural Center of Vallenata Music, this great accordion player will have a space and his memory will rest in the bibliographic compilation that is being carried out to exalt the figures of Vallenato folklore.

RECOGNITIONS

Before a radiant sun and the people of La Paz that accompanied their teacher to his final resting place, various institutions exalted the legacy that ‘Migue’ left to Vallenato folklore.

The Mayor’s Office of the Municipality of La Paz and the Vallenata Legend Festival Foundation delivered a style note to the López family, remembering their dedication to music and above all their dedication to promoting vallenato among the new generations.

Likewise, the Government of Cesar and the Senate of the Republic gave recognition to the López Dynasty, for being a minstrel who carried high the name of the region and the country.

SENATE ISSUED MOTION OF DUEL

By resolution, the Senate of the Republic issued a Motion of Mourning for the death of King Vallenato, Miguel López. The document was delivered yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, to the relatives of the prominent accordion player, a member of one of the most solid dynasties of our folklore, by Senator José Alfredo Gnecco, during the funeral services that will take place in the municipality of La Paz.

The resolution highlights the extensive legacy that Miguel López leaves for Vallenato folklore, which transcends the interpretation of his sons Román and Álvaro López, renowned musicians, who, like their father, have provided their support for the aggrandizement of Vallenato.

This Motion is supported by the members of the Senate board of directors, its president Iván Leonidas Vásquez, the first vice president María José Pizarro Rodríguez, the second vice president Didier Lobo Chinchilla and the general secretary Gregorio Eljach Pacheco.

Rodolfo Molina Araújo, president of the Vallenata Legend Festival Foundation, reiterated for his part that Miguel López was one of the minstrels of the López Dynasty, who most promoted traditional vallenato, which has made the region continue to grow and that reach the hearts.

During his lifetime, a great tribute was paid to him to highlight the great contribution he made to Vallenato folklore. “Year after year, tribute is paid to the precursors of vallenato music, this is seen in each festival where participants seek to emulate the greats, to glory such as Colacho Mendoza, Miguel López Calixto Ochoa, among others. Where history is lost, the essence of vallenato music is lost,” he assured.

The tribute closed with a serenade in which Vallenato kings of the accordion, singers and other artists participated who with music said their last goodbye to the maestro.

At 4:00 in the afternoon, the coffin left for the Central Cemetery of La Paz, where his remains were buried.
