With musical roots inspired by cultural syncretism, Pangea Ultima was born, a musical project promoted by the Mexican-German José Díaz de León, who currently lives in Germany and who, together with his fellow musicians, has achieved a concept with influences from the five continents. through contemporary fusions that combine identities.
In an interview with Diario de Querétaro, Díaz de León assured that music is about a language that mixes roots and stories: “There is nothing found in the musical area that is not influenced by various cultures,” said the interpreter.
“Camino a Mictlán” is the second album by this group, whose central line focuses on the mysticism that encompasses the Mexican vision of death, the festivities around it and the celebration of life: an album that had to do with my Mexican homeland and I was thinking about the most symbolic, “said Díaz, who found Day of the Dead an element of great importance and symbolic at a collective, cultural level and of great popularity abroad.
“The relationship with the end of life, what lies beyond, not being afraid of death and having a beautiful relationship, I think it is something that I found important to share here in Europe,” he added.
This album, he detailed, is made up of nine songs that coincide with the nine dimensions that must be traversed to reach Mictlán, land of the dead in the Mexican worldview: “El Floridita”, “Yolo”, “Rickshawboy”, “Ultimo día “,” Cempasúchil “,” El Calaco “,” Baile de la Catrina “,” Sierra Madre “and” Mictlán “.
“Camino a Mictlán” was recorded in January 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic still seemed far away; However, it is until this 2021 that the members of the band Christian Fehre, Roman Fuch and Díaz de León make it known, with the collaboration of musicians such as Diego Piñera, Joscho Stephan, Julian Bossert, Norman Peplow, Roland Peil and Hindol Deb who, with their contribution, make this production a jewel of rhythmic and instrumental diversity.
