The Ecuadorian was one of the regular starters who started the matchin a formation full of many alternating players, with fewer minutes or new arrivals. For that reason he was given the armband in the match at Stamford Bridge.
The match was not so easy for Chelsea, who despite dominating the game could not reflect that on the scoreboard. The first half ended with a goalless score and with some doubts about the play of Enzo Maresca’s team.
Things changed in the second half, when Chelsea played with more determination, and Christopher Nkunku scored the first goal of the match from the penalty spot.
Caicedo tried to play his usual game and was backed up by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, for marking and support work in the offensive game.
Maresca made some changes, bringing in several star players, such as Enzo Fernández, Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto. The Argentine provided a great assist for the second goal, with a good finish by Noni Madueke.
At 84 minutes Caicedo came out, amid applause from the crowd, for the entrance of Romeo Lavia. He left the band to Enzo Fernández.
They are now preparing for the weekend’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton, followed by the return leg against Servette next week.
