With mega party, they inaugurate the 52nd International Cervantino Festival

Guanajuato, Gto. On the esplanade of the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, the inauguration of the 52nd International Cervantino Festival (FIC) was held this Friday night, with the Guelaguetza, the greatest festival of Oaxacan identity.

Cuévano became a replica of Cerro del Fortín where artistic groups from the regions of Oaxaca: Central Valleys, the Sierra Juárez, Tuxtepec, the Mixteca, the Coast and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, delighted tourists and locals with dances, music, dances and songs.

With their traditional clothing, each of the participating delegations shared a part of their cultural wealth. The event was led by Juana Hernández, originally from Santiago Juxtlahuaca, as representative of the Goddess Centéotl and ambassador of the festivities.

Music was the protagonist throughout the night, with the presentation of different Music Bands from that entity. People enjoyed the syrup from the Valley, the sones and syrups from Tlaxiaco, the delegation from San Pedro Pochutla also made an appearance, and with their soul in their feet, danced some sones.

The climax of the show came with the presentation of the Dance of the Devils of Tecomaxtlahuaca, it was an explosion of color and energy.

Prior to the Guelaguetza show, the Cervantina Prize was awarded to the audience at the meeting, in this case it went to Hilda Corona de Gómez Leal and her husband Guillermo Gómez Leal, who represent the strong bond generated between the performing arts and the spectator.

Hilda and Guillermo have attended 49 editions of the FIC and have seen a wide variety of shows; They keep incredible anecdotes that they treasure in their minds. “In our first editions, we came to camp, so we could enjoy the festival activities,” the couple recalled.

Every year, the winners review the programming and buy their tickets so as not to miss the most attractive events, whether in theaters or on stages such as the Alhóndiga de Granaditas.

In turn, the Journalist Award was awarded to Hilda Josefina Anchondo Villalobos and the Eugenio Trueba Prize to Roberto Morales, musician, composer and researcher, who has put Guanajuato on the map of experimental musical creation.

At the opening ceremony, Mariana Aymerich, director of the artistic meeting, commented: “We are here because art, culture, sensitivity, beauty and creativity bring us together to share a space and time that allow us to develop as human beings.” .

He indicated that for 17 days, spectators will enjoy music, dance, circus, theater and exhibitions “that will transport us to different times and places, generating dialogues and ideas that will enrich our lives.”

Claudia Curiel de Icaza, in her first activity in the states as federal Secretary of Culture, recognized the work of the University of Guanajuato in the dissemination and promotion of culture in the entity. He added that the festival has fulfilled its objective of “bringing together different cultures and celebrating the diversity, inclusion and richness of expressions of the people of Mexico and the world. The Cervantino, as we affectionately call it, has received artists of very important international stature such as the Bolshoi Ballet, Chavela Vargas, Celia Cruz, just to mention a few. Now we have Oaxaca and Brazil as guests.”

The Ambassador of Brazil in Mexico, Nedilson Jorge, expressed that his country will be well represented at the FIC with the delegation made up of artists, women of African descent, people with disabilities and members of the LGTB community, “they are the face of an inclusive Brazil. “We have chosen the best for this Cervantino celebration, one of the most important festivals.”

International, federal, state and municipal authorities also attended the opening ceremony, including Libya Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, governor of the State of Guanajuato and Samantha Smith, municipal president of the city of Guanajuato.
