With mariachis, Osmar Olvera, double Olympic medalist, is welcomed at the AICM

“I hope that with these medals they will continue to support not only me, but all Mexican athletes. I hope these medals serve to create a united Mexico,” he said.

Osmar was the Mexican with the best performance at the Parisian event, winning silver alongside Juan Celaya in the three-meter synchronized springboard event and bronze in the individual competition.

With these medals, he made history as the second Mexican diver to win two medals in the same Olympic edition. The first was Joaquín Capilla, who won four medals, two of them in Melbourne 1956, when he won gold and bronze.

“I admire Joaquín Capilla for his sporting career, one of my goals is to reach him. It is my motivation to see that I am getting closer to being at his level,” said Olvera. “Not only did I earn respect in this competition, I had already done so in previous tournaments, now I have to continue improving so that we can win gold,” he celebrated.

Osmar’s achievements are supported by Chinese-born coach Ma Jin, who has been instrumental in Mexico’s consolidation as an international power in diving in recent years, winning four Olympic medals in the discipline.

“Ma jin is very important for Mexican diving. She has helped me too, if it weren’t for her I wouldn’t have these results.

“She likes to push herself as much as she does us. We make a great team, that is the key to her success, she always wants more,” said Olvera while proudly wearing the two medals that have made him a benchmark in diving.
