With loud applause, parliament sent specialized justice into history

Thank you for your support, said Nadezhda Yordanova

As of April 1, 30 Bulgarian citizens had been in Bulgarian detention facilities for more than six months without charge

With loud applause, the National Assembly closed the specialized justice. The debate lasted more than 10 hours. It started at 9 am and ended shortly after 7 pm.

“How it was – a small step for man, a big leap for humanity,” said Christian Vigenin, who chaired the meeting, quoting Neil Armstrong’s historic phrase on the moon.

“The law will be met with champagne, but it will be implemented with tears. Now you will have to blame the Sofia district, the Sofia city court, there will be chaos in the system,” said Toma Bikov of GERB.

“I voted against not only because I believe that this bill is harmful to the Bulgarian justice system. I voted against because I refuse to sacrifice working institutions in the name of fake shamans,” said Desislava Atanasova of GERB. She also chose many names and nicknames of people from the underworld.

“Thank you for your support,” said Nadezhda Yordanova, who was present at the entire discussion. She assured that judicial reform does not stop there. Even today, while debating the work, the working group has started, which will deal with legislative changes resulting from the decision Kolevi v. Bulgaria.

She said that as of April 1, there were 30 citizens in custody, detained without charge for more than six months, and without an indictment for more than a year, there were five.
