During the New York Fashion Week show, Michael Kors presented his collection with models wearing a variety of classic ’70s looks, including fur coats, leather belts, dramatic flared pants, oversized sunglasses, leather boots, and fringe.
“There is a moment in my life when I decided that I wanted to be a designer. I fell in love with women who were very inspiring to me at the time,” Kors said. In this list of women, the designer puts the top at his mother and activist Gloria Steinem: “They never stopped looking fabulous.” When designing the collection, he said he, the two of them, and women like Tina Turner, Jane Fonda and Yoko Ono were on her mind.
“But I also fell in love with Greenwich Village and this whole idea of the urban bohemiasaid Kors, who selected a location that would allow the city to be part of the show: “I’m a designer from New York, so I love that people can see it from the outside.”
In the 74 looks he played with the proportions combining long jackets with short and flirty looks. She put a spin on nightwear by designing elegant jumpsuits and dresses with daring cuts.
The color palette was warm and yet sophisticated. “beautiful shades of taupe and mocha, lots of chocolate brown. I think it’s a good alternative to black and people look great on it. Lots of cream, kind of a lovely burgundy red. We have a beautiful hunter green. And then I always think that metallic color automatically lifts your spirits and lifts your face. You look great.”
The show was packed with elite guests: Mindy Kaling, Lea Michele, Katie Holmes, Kate Hudson sat in the front row, as did New York Governor Kathy Hochul.
New York Fashion Week ended after six days of shows and events.
