On screen, images of wind turbines and the Aeolus platform ship follow those of the Penthièvre coast and its seabed.
“An ecological cost”
Like many in Erquy and in the bay of Saint-Brieuc, the young girl expresses strong opposition to the construction of wind turbines at sea, of which she recalls the important consequences:
It has a considerable ecological cost, it destroys the fish breeding areas and the fishermen’s economy!
Even if she concedes it: “wind turbines are better than nuclear power”, Mélisse affirms the possibility of doing otherwise.
There are, for example, floating wind turbines, which are installed further offshore and which produce more energy because the winds are stronger there. They cost less than the wind turbines that are being put in place now.
These floating wind turbines, whose technology is more recent, are still relatively underdeveloped on European coasts. But one of the first floating parks in the world should be deployed off Belle-Île-en-Mer and Groix, in Morbihan, from 2022.
So why not in the bay of Saint-Brieuc? The young girl wonders.
Why do this when we know that it is harmful and that there is better? You might as well do better now!
Inform young people
When the offshore wind farm project in the bay of Saint-Brieuc was launched, she was only six years old. It was only much more recently that she discovered the details.
When I saw the demonstrations, the works on the beach of Caroual and that I started to do research, I understood that it was not that ecological!
Fairly committed by nature, the high school student then seeks a way to talk about it. The solution is found for her, who already makes short films and loves to write: it will be a video. An effective way to reach another audience.
Only young fishermen were really aware of the installation of wind turbines, because it directly impacts them. Many other young people did not necessarily know. You don’t read too much local newspapers. Our generation goes through screens, the internet and social networks a lot.
Many reactions
The young girl says it herself, she was surprised at the extent of her publication. Commented almost 120 times in a few days, the video makes people react.
I was sent a lot of messages of support, some from people who live in Rennes or Loudéac! I also received a lot of questions, I was not prepared, I am not an expert. But if I can stand up for something, I’m happy to!
If she has more to say, Mélisse does not rule out taking back her smartphone and pen, depending on the evolution of the situation.
