According to the audience measurement company Médiamétrie, the French spent 2:25 a day surfing the Web last year, 19 minutes more than in 2019.

According to Mediametry, the number of web users has not increased with the health crisis, reaching 53 million per month. On the other hand, the time spent by Internet users on the Internet has intensified. If the French spent an average of 2:25 a day on the web throughout the year, they spent even more time on it during the two confinements. In particular 3:11 a.m. during the first confinement and 2:45 a.m. during the second confinement.

Note that the increase is different for the different categories of the population. It was more marked among young people aged 15 to 24. In particular, the latter spent 4:23 hours on the Web during the year, an increase of 24% compared to 2019. On the other hand, those over 50 spent only 1:48 a day surfing the Internet.

Social networks, meal delivery services and SVOD platforms are the big winners of containment

Regarding social networks, Facebook remained the most popular platform for Internet users during the past year. Its number of monthly visitors increased by 3%, reaching 45.2 million. For its part, TikTok is in ninth place in the ranking of the most used messaging and social networks in the country with 11 million visitors per month. If the latter jumped 273%, it still does not reach the ankle of Snapchat which has 23.4 million monthly users.

With regard to entertainment, 36.2 million Internet users would have visited the sites and the TV / Audio applications each month. In addition, 27.9 million and 45.9 million Internet users respectively visited SVOD platforms and AVoD platforms each month. Finally, the audience of home meal deliverers also doubled between October 2019 and October 2020.
