With EU money: village pubs are to be prettied up

Bar counters, furniture, toilets – the red-red government coalition in Schwerin sees a considerable renovation backlog in village pubs and country inns in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. On the initiative of the Die Linke parliamentary group, the state parliament is now dealing with the problem.

According to a motion by Rot-Rot, parliament is to state on Thursday that catering establishments in rural areas have an important social function. The coalition partners write that small inns are often the last place to meet in town.

Funding should come from the EU pot for rural areas – in short: Eler. According to the left MP Henning Foerster, innkeepers could get money if they have fewer than ten employees and make a maximum of two million euros in sales a year.

Then a subsidy rate of 30 percent is possible for investments, and even 35 percent for start-ups or company successors. Although the program already exists, the state government should in future ensure that innkeepers also benefit from it. (dpa)
