With ease! Remco Evenepoel wins the first stage in the Tour of Norway | Tour of Norway 2022

In the 1st stage, the peloton was faced with a 174 kilometer journey from Bergen to Voss. The young Belgian Jens Reynders settled into the race of the day, which, thanks to the teams aiming for the classification, was caught in plenty of time.

The decision fell on the tough final climb of more than 2 kilometers, with an average gradient of 8.4 percent. Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl kept things under control and put Remco Evenepoel in a seat for the last few hectometres.

Eduard Prades lit the fuse in this, but the Spaniard from Caja Rural soon got evenepoel’s head. The winner of Liège-Bastogne-Liège talked everyone out of his wheel and sprinted to victory. With Cian Uijtdebroek and Laurens Huys, two more Belgians finished in the top 10.

Evenepoel is of course also the first leader. Thanks to the bonuses, he is 4 seconds ahead of the Norwegian Tobias Johannessen in the standings. “I did not expect that I would be so good on the first day”, Evenepoel reacted after the finish. “It was quite a steep climb.”

Remarkable: in the full final, Evenepoel put himself aside for a sanitary stop. “I really had to stop or else my bladder would explode,” he laughed.
