Officials of the Chemnitz autobahn police pulled a drugged driver out of traffic on Monday who was also traveling in a disused van. As the police informed yesterday, Tuesday, the vehicle was noticed by the officers on Monday shortly after 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Stollberg / Niederdorf truck stop on the A 72, because the license plates were falsified. As they found out during their further inspection, the VW was not properly registered and not subject to mandatory insurance. The 50-year-old driver (German nationality) was apparently under the influence of drugs, a pre-test reacted positively to amphetamines. This was followed by a blood sample and reports of driving under the influence of intoxicating substances, forgery of documents and violation of the compulsory insurance law. The vehicle license plates were secured. (vh)
