Home delivery has been booming since the start of the health crisis. We are now used to having our groceries or meals delivered … But did you know that the phenomenon is also developing among drug traffickers? In particular since the implementation of confinement at 6 p.m. This phenomenon, called “Ubershit” by the police, is a new form of delinquency taken very seriously by the Grenoble prosecutor’s office.
“Buying moves”
To fight trafficking, investigators pose as buyers. “These” buying moves “are carried out in compliance with legal rules which frame the practice” explains Grenoble prosecutor Eric Vaillant. Article 230-46 of the Code of Criminal Procedure allows cyber patrollers from the judicial police and the research section of the gendarmerie, under the control of the public prosecutor, to contact traffickers and order narcotics from them.
Investigators therefore consult the “windows” accessible to all on the main social networks which then refer them to communication applications facilitating anonymity (SNAPCHAT, TELEGRAM, etc.). “All types of narcotics are offered although it is much more difficult to find heroin” specifies the prosecutor of Grenoble. The prices, even if they can be increased during a first purchase, are approximately the same as on the points of deal. The customer remains in control of the place of delivery.
These operations are carried out in urban areas under the police as well as in peri-urban or rural areas concerning the gendarmerie so that traffickers do not get involved in this niche thinking that they are safe from all prosecution.
Already several arrests
The operation started at the beginning of the week has already allowed several arrests in the police and gendarmerie area. In Seyssinet, Tuesday, two minors aged 13 and 14, used as delivery men, were arrested as well as an adult known for drug trafficking in the town of Meylan.
On Wednesday, the arrest by the police of a 20-year-old individual, already known for a narcotics case, gave rise to proceedings in immediate appearance by the prosecution. At the end of the afternoon, 4 minors, aged 14 to 17, were again arrested by the police.
Watch out for scams
Police and gendarmes have noted that customers are frequently victims of fraud. The pseudo-seller requests payment before delivery in bitcoins or prepaid payment card, and he does not show up for the appointment set by the buyer.
In addition, be aware that investigations are being carried out on the address books of traffickers.
