Mexico City. The Mexican government will confront “with cold blood and intelligence” the threats of the winning candidate of the election in the United States, Donald Trump, regarding imposing tariffs in case Claudia Sheinbaum‘s administration does not collaborate even more to stop migratory flows.
This was confirmed this afternoon by the head of the Ministry of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, when leaving a meeting with the federal president at the National Palace.
After the telephone conversation between the President and the future US president, Ebrard ruled out the possibility of a confrontation with the Trump government and stressed that the Mexican president’s team had been prepared for this scenario for months.
-How do you confront, according to your experience, these threats, these feints that Donald Trump has made during his campaign? -he was asked in a brief interview he gave when leaving the National Palace.
“With cold blood and intelligence,” he replied.
-Could there be any problem with the Trump administration? —it was insisted.
-I don’t believe it, I don’t see it. Because the size of the commercial exchange between the two countries means that all logic leads you to strengthen it. So, I think that the economic and commercial relationship will continue forward, imagine an annual growth of 6.5 (percent),
tremendous, right?, this (according to) their figures.
The official noted that there will be meetings with Trump’s team once Sheinbaum instructs him to do so.
“But (the president) and the entire government have been very prepared for that scenario for months. So there are no surprises here. “We are ready,” he emphasized.
Ebrard stressed that the visit yesterday to the president of Larry Fink, president of the BlackRock investment fund, was not a coincidence.
“Yesterday Larry Fink. What did Larry Fink’s visit mean? Larry Fink is probably one of the… he manages one of the largest funds in the world, we are talking about trillions of dollars, his fund is larger than the entire economy of Germany and Japan, and larger than all the economies of Latin America. President Sheinbaum came to visit just the day after, that is not a coincidence, there are no coincidences here.
“Why did he come? Well, it is an ‘endorsement’. It is saying ‘we have confidence in what Mexico is doing, and we are interested in what the government is doing and we want to participate in what is being done.’ So, I see that the markets, in this case with the presence of one of their clearest representatives, are betting that Mexico will do very well and so will we and we will do very well.”
