New York – Sonja Deusinger’s (51) love for New York gets under your skin. Her husband Peter (62) has been burning for the voluntary fire brigade for 46 years.
Now BILD brought the couple from Friedrichsdorf (Hesse) to New York with the first plane (since the Corona entry ban was relaxed). The chief physician-secretary to BILD: “My husband was really hooked on the idea of visiting a real fire station.”
The two chose the special unit of the “FDNY Squad 288”. The emergency services are among the best firefighters in the country. Even after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the force was in action.

During the 9/11 mission, eight rescue workers on this fire engine lost their lives. “It was a great moment to see colleagues who helped with an event like 2001,” says fire chief Peter about the visit. “The interaction is very familiar, and yet the squads are very professional.”
Peter Deusinger: “The tour through the guard was gigantic, they have their own gas station in their halls. And how the vehicles are equipped, incredibly good! ”

The New York Professional Fire Department
Long before TV classics such as “Rescue me” (2004-2011) and “Chuck Larry – like fire and flames” (2007), the New York fire department was considered legendary. Anyone who makes it to the largest professional fire service in the world can earn $ 100,000 a year in just a few years. Almost 15,400 emergency services are fighting fires in the metropolis. The fire fighters of FDNY SQUAD 288 from the borough of Queens are called with their special tools to the biggest missions in the city.
