Mexico City. The Tax Administration Service (SAT) has almost tripled its revenue from audits of taxpayers of all sizes. It went from collecting 1.2 billion pesos from audits and other compliance promotion activities between 2012 and 20218, to 3.4 billion pesos during the current administration.
In a statement, the agency said that the increase in revenue is due to the audit of small and medium-sized taxpayers, as well as companies that have revenues of more than 1.5 billion pesos per year.
Of the total collection, 1 trillion 380 thousand 812 million pesos were obtained from audits of large taxpayers, 1 trillion 56 thousand 576 million pesos from audits of small and medium taxpayers, while 945 thousand 962 million pesos were obtained from compliance promotion (invitations), the SAT broke down.
The agency emphasized that the 1.38 trillion pesos collected through audits of large taxpayers is part of the Master Plan implemented during the current SAT administration and is based on audits to prevent aggressive tax planning; increase the perception of risk in large taxpayers and provide legal certainty.
To this end, audits were scheduled with a more assertive approach and with less inspection time of up to five previous fiscal years; self-correction and timely collection were encouraged; the backlog of tax credits was eliminated and the portfolio was purged; and the verification of the application of balances in favor of value added tax (VAT) was reinforced.

Data from the SAT show that revenues following an audit of large taxpayers have shot up 106.1 percent during this administration. That is, at least twice as much has been collected as in the previous administration, when this type of resources reached 500,423 million pesos.
In the first half of 2024 alone, the collection of resources derived from inspection tasks increased by 378,173 million pesos, the SAT reported.
