With another Ohtani record, Dodgers win the NL West Division

In another historic duel for Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers won the Western Division championship of the National League of Major League Baseball by winning 7-2 against the San Diego Padres.

The Japanese, who a few days ago set a record of 50 home runs and the same number of stolen bases in a season, has now reached 400 total bases in his career, being the first MLB player since Barry Bonds to do so in 2001. Sammy Sosa, Todd Helton and Luis González are part of the select group that has also achieved this feat.

Five runs in the seventh inning were key to overcoming a two-run deficit for the Angelenos, Cuban Andy Pages hit his 12th home run of the season while Japanese Shohei Ohtani drove in a run without a home run.

Anthony Banda (3-2) took the win with an inning and a third of relief. Reliever Tanner Scott (9-6) was the loser, allowing three runs and the same number of hits in two-thirds of an inning.

Star slugger Freddie Freeman left the game after a spectacular collision with Venezuelan Luis Arráez in the second roll.

It is the third consecutive division title for the Dodgers and number 11 in the last 12 seasons.

– Athletics say goodbye to the Oakland Coliseum –

A 3-2 victory over the Texas Rangers marked the Oakland Athletics’ last game at the Oakland Coliseum, their home since 1968.

JJ Bleday drove in the winning run and the last for the A’s in the historic facility, in a game that served as a meeting point for great figures of the organization throughout its 57 years at the Oakland Coliseum.

The A’s will play the 2025 season at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento while construction of a new stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada is underway.

Oakland occupies second-to-last place in the West division in the American League with a record of 69 wins and 90 losses. At home they say goodbye with a balance of 38 wins and 43 losses in the 2024 season.

In another result, the Chicago White Sox avoided breaking the record for losses in the modern era by beating the Los Angeles Angels 7-0 with two hits by Venezuelan Lenyn Sosa, who also drove in two runs.

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2. Dominican Bryan De La Cruz hit his 21st home run of the season but could not avoid the 85th loss of the season for the Pirates.

Venezuelan Ezequiel Tovar drove in two runs in the Colorado Rockies’ 10-8 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals and Dominican Ángel Chivilli (2-3) pitched an inning in which he allowed two runs in his second victory of the season .
