With all tickets sold out, the Pokémon GO City Safari was held in Mexico City for the first time in Latin America | #Games

Thousands of trainers from Mexico and the world joined the adventure of capturing Pokémon during the weekend!

Mexico City, November 16, 2023.- During November 4 and 5, Trainers in Mexico City were able to enjoy the first Pokémon GO City Safari held in Latin America. More than 30 thousand trainers from 30 different countries embarked on an adventure through the city to catch different wild Pokémon and join a special investigation to capture Eevee with a unique decorative background that includes the landscape of the Angel of Independence. Thanks to the extraordinary response from players, all tickets were sold out days before the start of the event, so Niantic decided to release more tickets for Sunday.

The Trainers were able to participate in 5 different in-person activations that were placed in parks in the metropolitan area such as Parque Hundido, Parque Lincoln, Parque América, Glorieta Pdte. Masaryk and Naucalli Park; thus achieving more than 5 million PokéStops and nearly 180 thousand raids. Different parts of the city were also decked out with a series of advertising displays, including hand-painted signs and transparent bus shelters decorated with Pokémon characters that offered unique photo opportunities, further fostering participation and enthusiasm among the community.

The Niantic team also organized a VIP tour in a double-decker open-top bus, which during the weekend visited activation points throughout the city in the company of Niantic employees, different strategic partners, media representatives, content creators and members of gaming communities. Over the weekend, Trainers as a whole managed to capture 6.8 million Pokémon, including Tropius, Axew, Rufflet, Wooper, Hawlucha and Skiddo. In addition, more than 27 thousand Pokémon were exchanged.

In the Miguel Hidalgo mayor’s office, life-sized PokéStops were placed, which also served as charging centers so that passers-by could recharge their cell phones, and 3 monumental letters alluding to the game’s teams were decorated in different parks in the mayor’s office. As a thank you for the support received during the event, Niantic will be in charge of the maintenance and repair of 5 benches located on Masaryk Avenue, showing the company’s commitment to the recovery of public spaces, for the benefit of residents and visitors to the area.

In addition, players were able to approach and interact in 5 7-Eleven stores decorated with the image of the Pokémon GO teams and distributed around the city. At these special locations, Trainers took part in a stamp rally, earning them prizes courtesy of 7-Eleven upon completing the mission, while supplies last.

Pokémon GO was also part of the Day of the Dead celebrations, through the installation of the City Safari-themed Mexican skull displayed in front of the Angel of Independence, where Trainers were able to take photos and visit the in-game Gym. The lights of the Monumental Skull at night changed color depending on the team that was controlling that Gym.

Tickets to the event included a series of bonuses, such as double the Candy for capturing Pokémon, a reduction in the distance to hatch Eggs in incubators, extension of the duration of Bait and Incense Modules and much more. Thanks to this, the Trainers hatched more than 121 thousand eggs and exchanged nearly 188 thousand gifts.

“City Safari: Mexico City was the first Augmented Reality event of its kind in Latin America, with which we managed to amplify the beauty of the city with a digital and in-person experience for thousands of people. It was a success thanks to the great response from the Trainers and we hope that it will be the beginning of more similar events in the region, so that more people can live this unique experience,” added Alan Mandujano, Head of Latin America at Niantic, Inc.

With the support of the Mexico City Tourism Secretariat, in various tourist information modules, City Safari participants received a Duskull visor and a Pokémon GO sticker to personalize their Integrated Mobility Card, in addition to receiving information about the best routes to continue the adventure.

According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, during the Pokémon GO City Safari weekend, hotel occupancy in Mexico City experienced an average increase of 5.5 points compared to 2022. This growth highlights the contribution of the event to the development of the hotel sector in the city.

It was undoubtedly a great weekend for the Trainers in Mexico, who were able to live an adventure, create new friendships and rediscover the beauty of the city during the City Safari. For more information on the various Pokémon GO events, including Community Days and new additions to the game, we invite all players to stay tuned to the official Pokémon GO blog and social networks. Additionally, Trainers are reminded to always pay attention to their surroundings and follow the rules of local health authorities when playing Pokémon GO.
