Although the environmental bonus for electric cars was surprisingly canceled in December 2023, some financial incentives remain. These include the multi-year exemption from vehicle tax and tax advantages for battery-electric company vehicles. The taxable gross list price for electric cars as company cars will be reduced from 1.0 to 0.25 percent. However, there is an upper limit of 70,000 euros for the vehicle list price.
A key programme of the federal government envisages raising this list price to 95,000 euros in the future. This would be the second increase this year, after there had already been an increase from 60,000 to 70,000 euros.
Another new feature is the equal treatment of combustion engines powered by e-fuels with electric cars. Point 5 of the government document states that the focus is on technological openness. This means that “motor vehicles powered exclusively by e-fuels will be treated the same as fully electric vehicles for tax purposes, particularly with regard to vehicle tax and company car taxation.”
Prices are falling: These cars can run on e-fuels
