A great celebration with more than 50 shows will be offered this Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the National Arts Center (Cenart), on the occasion of International Dance Day.
To celebrate the art of the body in movement, 47 companies, made up of 650 dancers, will perform for free in 11 spaces at Cenart.
The public will be able to enjoy various genres, from classical, folkloric, contemporary and tango dance to Spanish, danzón, butoh and Hindu, with renowned companies such as the Contemporary Dance Production Center (Ceprodac), the UNAM Choreographic Workshop (TCUNAM), Capital Dance and Red Clay Performing Art.
The program also includes the participation of dance companies with mixed abilities and older adults, groups from other states, such as Arte Facto Danza de Xalapa and the School of Fine Arts of the State of Mexico, as well as professional academies, including that of the Mexican Dance, and the national schools of Classical and Contemporary Dance, and Nellie and Gloria Campobello.
At the Theater of the Arts, at 10:30 a.m., the play will be presented Signs… the body of the night, by Ceprodac, directed by Cecilia Lugo. Subsequently, the Mexican Dance Academy will take the stage with a fragment of the third act of Don Quixote.
At 3 p.m. the company Barro Rojo Arte Escánico is scheduled with the choreographic proposal long dawn, and the Gurudev Tagore group, directed by Abhinaw Raj, performs at 5 p.m. with the work Dance Festival. The TCUNAM will take the piece to the Theater of the Arts From the roots to the new fruits.
As part of the activities, the documentary will be screened in the Aula Magna José Vasconcelos at 1:30 p.m. Steps of Freedom. The Story of Irish Dance, by Ruan Magan, and at 3:30 p.m. the public will be able to see the video dance STAM, from Coreo Academy of the Israelita Sports Center.
On this day of celebration of dance, people will enjoy a free version of Swan Lake with the Ballet Ensemble of Mexico, as well as the shows Sevillanas and tango singing with the company Tango CompLyE, A mosaic of cultures with Mashalá, an Arab and Maghreb dance company, as well as The journey of aging-being a woman con Senex.
Likewise, five workshops will be taught: African dances; The harmony of the spheres: Movement and creativity; Specific technique and creation of sequences for mariachi sones; Danzón, and Physical training for dancers: Dancefit Leagues, which will be free of charge, upon registration at the Cenart Report Module (79 Río Churubusco Avenue, Country Club neighborhood) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
